Desmond Ofei, coach for Ghana’s U-23 male football national team, the Black Meteors, has named a 23-man squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya next week, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) confirmed late Friday.
The team, which is a blend of foreign- and home-based players, will travel to Benghazi for the first leg of the two-legged tie scheduled for Nov. 11 as the West African country begins their quest to secure one of seven spots for the 2027 U-23 AFCON.
Ghana will be seeking to obtain a positive result over the two legs to advance to the next level of the qualifiers, where they will play against the winner of the Equatorial Guinea and Niger tie.
The three-round qualification will determine the seven countries that join hosts Egypt for the eight-team U-23 Africa Cup of Nations finals.
Ghana seeks to end the country’s long absence from Olympic football, as it last participated in the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004.
The TotalEnergies CAF U-23 AFCON will take place in Egypt in November 2027, serving as the official African qualification tournament for the 2028 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
The two top teams will secure the spots to represent the continent in the Olympic Games. Enditem
