The Driver Vehicle and Licensing Authority (DVLA) has impounded some 40 vehicles over fraudulent Drive from Port (DP) stickers, a statement by the Authority confirmed on Friday.

According to the statement, preliminary investigations indicate that the affected vehicles were imported by CFAO into the country however, evidence suggests that an agent engaged to clear the vehicles on behalf of the company resorted to illegal methods hence the discrepancies.

“The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority has impounded 40 vehicles at the Tema Harbour following an intelligence-led operation that uncovered the use of fraudulent Drive from Port stickers, as well as affixing authentic DP stickers on vehicles with mismatched records,” read the statement.

The DP stickers was introduced by the DVLA to address revenue leakages associated with the previous aluminum DP plate system.

Following this reform, the Authority recorded a significant increase in issuance of DP stickers from an average of 2,000 stickers per month to approximately 15,000 in October 2025.

In recent times however, a noticeable decline in DP sticker issuance at the ports prompted further investigations.

The DVLA assured the public that it is working with National Security to investigate the matter and intensify efforts to combat fraudulent practices within the vehicle importation and registration process.

The Authority further urged vehicle importers and stakeholders to exercise due diligence and comply strictly with established procedures and added it remains vigilant and committed to safeguarding the integrity of vehicle administration system in the country. Enditem
