Firefighters in Spokane County, Washington, captured their attempts to protect homes from advancing wildfires that have devastated communities across the region, in footage released Monday.
“Spokane County Fire District 8 firefighters worked through the day and night to save as many structures as possible. We know the loss is life changing for so many. Our thoughts are with our community,” the authority noted in a post via Facebook.
The scenes come after nearly 65,000 people have been ordered to evacuate across Spokane County, according to local authorities. Officials said more than 700 structures have been destroyed and over 8,000 acres have burned since the fires erupted on Saturday.
Fire crews continue battling the Fairview Fire and the Old Trails Fire. No deaths or injuries have been confirmed, although emergency officials warned that the full extent of the damage is still being assessed.
The Spokane fires are part of a broader wildfire crisis across Washington state. The Pacific Northwest is experiencing one of its most severe fire seasons in more than three decades, with prolonged heat and dry conditions contributing to the rapid spread of the blazes.
