The senior national team, the Black Stars, lost 2-1 to Germany in an international friendly at the MHP Arena in Stuttgart late Monday.
Coming from a heavy defeat to Austria on Friday, the West Africans played a very compact game to keep their opponents at bay during the first half.
The Germans, however, kept pushing men forward, and Kai Havertz converted a penalty awarded them for the first goal almost at halftime after Ghanaian defender Kwasi Sibo was adjudged to have handled the ball in his goal area.
Ghanaian coach Otto Addo’s substitution that he made in the second half paid off as one of the entrants, Abdul Fatawu, scored the equalizing goal for the Black Stars in the 70th minute.
Deniz Undav, one of the substitutes introduced into the game, scored Germany’s second and final goal in the 88th minute, bringing the final scoreline to 2-1 in favor of the Europeans.
Ghana lost to Austria by 5-1 last Friday. The two matches form part of preparations ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be held in the U.S.A., Canada, and Mexico.
The four-time African champions have been paired in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia in the next World Cup scheduled to be held between June 11 and July 19. Enditem
