The Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed its officers to get ready to validate the salaries of promoted teachers as soon as the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) opens the validation window, according to a statement on Friday.
The directive follows an order by the Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu for the GES and the CAGD to work around the clock to pay the salary arrears of promoted teachers across the country who are on strike currently.
The GES urged all validators to treat the exercise as urgent and time-bound to facilitate the payment of salaries by October 16.
“Management wishes to inform you to ensure that all designated validators within your respective jurisdictions are adequately informed ahead of time to undertake the validation of salaries immediately, upon the opening of the validation window by the Controller and Accountant General’s Department,” read the statement.
Pre-tertiary teacher unions are on strike over the failure of the government to place the 2025 promoted teachers onto their new salary scales with arrears fully paid, expired collective bargaining agreement, and the non-implementation of the 20 percent deprived area allowance.
Following the industrial action embarked upon by the teachers on September 25, the Education Minister intervened and assured the teachers the salary with arrears would be paid by October 16 while the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission engaged the teachers to resolve the other two outstanding issues.
Teachers have abandoned the classrooms for 10 days now, and already many are calling for the review of the 2026/27 academic calendar. Enditem
