The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced that electricity and water tariffs will remain unchanged for the fourth quarter of 2026, effective October 1, 2026.
The Commission said the existing third-quarter tariffs will continue to apply, representing a 0% adjustment for both electricity and water.
The decision followed PURC’s quarterly review of key factors including the Ghana cedi–US dollar exchange rate, domestic inflation, electricity generation mix, and cost of natural gas used for thermal power generation.
For Q4, PURC used a weighted average exchange rate of GH¢11.5646 to US$1, compared with GH¢11.2228 in Q3, while the average annual inflation rate rose to 4.97% from 3.43%. The weighted average cost of natural gas, however, declined by 1.67% to US$7.8379 per MMBtu.
PURC also projects hydro generation to increase from 20.90% to 24.25%, while thermal generation is expected to fall from 79.10% to 75.75%.
The Commission said the combined effect of these factors did not warrant an adjustment to electricity tariffs, while water tariffs will also remain unchanged across the various customer categories. Enditem
