Ghana’s male senior football national team, the Black Stars, drew 1-1 with Wales in an international friendly at the Cardiff City in Wales late Tuesday.
The Black Stars, coming from five previous defeats in international friendlies, were determined to record their first win under new manager Carlos Queiroz in charge of his first game.
Wales began the game on a high note as they dominated play but failed to find the net due to fantastic saves by Ghanaian goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi, ending the first half barren.
Back from the break, Queiroz introduced some young talents into the Black Stars team, leading to a change in tactical play. Caleb Yirenkyi capitalized on a rebound to score the first goal for Ghana in the 65th minute after a solo run by Ernest Nuamah.
Ghana held onto their solitary lead until two minutes to full time, when Koumas found the equalizer for Wales to end the match at 1-1.
Making its fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup, Ghana has been paired in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia in the tournament scheduled for the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
The 2026 World Cup is scheduled to take place between June 11 and July 19. Enditem
