The government of Ghana has released funds covering the first quarter of the year to settle scholarship commitments for Ghanaian students studying in the United Kingdom and other parts of the world, according to a statement on Thursday.
The statement, signed by Alex Kwaku Asafo-Agyei, Director-General for the Ghana Scholarships Authority, said the intervention forms part of ongoing efforts by the Ghanaian government to progressively address delays in the payment of stipends and tuition fees.
“The Ghana Scholarships Authority wishes to inform all Ghanaian scholarship beneficiaries studying in the United Kingdom and other countries that the government has released first quarter allocations to the Authority toward the settlement of outstanding scholarship arrears,” read the statement.
The Authority acknowledged the concerns and challenges that sponsored Ghanaian students go through and expressed its regrets for the inconvenience caused by the delays and assured the government remains deeply committed to the welfare of Ghanaian students abroad.
The statement further assured that the authority is working with relevant stakeholders to ensure that payments due the students are processed promptly going forward. Enditem
