Ghana and Central American country Panama have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to deepen cooperation in key sectors mutually beneficial to both nations, Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said on Monday.
In a post on Twitter, formerly X, Ablakwa said the agreement seeks to structure cooperation in maritime affairs, cocoa production, and trade, as well as technical assistance in the extractive sector.
“Ghana and Panama have signed an MoU to officially commence bilateral political consultations. I signed together with His Excellency Javier Eduardo Martinez-Acha Vasquez in the margins of the ongoing UN General Assembly in New York,” Ghana’s FM posted.
He added, “The MoU seeks to deepen and structure our cooperation, particularly in maritime affairs, cocoa production, enhanced trade, and mutual technical assistance in the extractive sector.”
Relations between Ghana and Panama date back to November 2022, when the Parliament of Ghana and the National Assembly of Panama launched the Ghana-Panama Parliament Friendship Association to build legislative and economic ties. Enditem
