Former captain of the Black Stars, Asamoah Gyan, has been appointed the team’s Club and Relations Manager, according to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) on Monday.
Gyan’s role, according to the GFA, will focus on strengthening the relationship between the national team, players, and their respective clubs, as well as improving player welfare and management.
“As clubs and player relations manager, Gyan will serve as a key liaison between the technical team, players, and clubs; facilitate communication around player call-ups and welfare; and provide mentorship and support to the playing body,” said the FA.
The GFA added, “His experience, leadership, and deep connection with the current generation of players is expected to be a major asset for the team.”
Gyan was first called up into the Black Stars on November 19, 2003, at the age of 17 years and retired on May 20, 2019.
During his 16-year stint with the national team, Gyan, nicknamed ‘Babyjet,’ scored a total of 51 goals, becoming Ghana’s all-time leading scorer, and played in three FIFA World Cups and multiple Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments. Enditem
