The government of Ghana is relocating Emmanuel Asamoah, the Ghanaian national who came under attack by some South Africans recently, minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said in a post on Saturday.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the minister announced that he had personally engaged the xenophobic attack victim and that his countryman was doing well.

“The government of Ghana is relocating Emmanuel Asamoah, the Ghanaian legally living in South Africa who came under unwarranted xenophobic attack from a fringe vigilante group. I have spoken to Asamoah directly, and he is doing well despite the incessant threats,” tweeted Ablakwa.

He commended the government of South Africa for their efforts and reassuring words since the incident took place.

“I wish to also commend the government of South Africa for their reassuring response, particularly as conveyed in the press statement issued by the Minister for Police, Firoz Cachalia,” he added.

The Ghanaian FM assured the government will continue to make the protection of Ghanaians at home and abroad its utmost priority.

Recent reports of attacks on Ghanaian nationals in South Africa emerged after videos circulated online showing foreign nationals being harassed and intimidated.

The incident sparked concern among Ghanaians both at home and abroad, with some community leaders describing the situation as part of a long-standing pattern of hostility towards foreigners. Enditem
