The government is set to meet the three pre-tertiary teacher unions on Monday, September 28, 2026, to resolve outstanding concerns over promotion arrears and other conditions of service, our source confirmed on Sunday.
The meeting, to be led by Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, will bring together the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and Pre-Tertiary Teachers Association of Ghana (PRETAG), alongside the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) and the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD).
The unions declared a nationwide strike on September 25 after their concerns remained unresolved.
Key demands include the automatic placement of teachers who passed promotion examinations in December 2025 and February 2026, payment of arrears from January 2026, renewal of the Collective Agreement, and implementation of the Deprived Area Allowance.
The Education Ministry says it hopes the engagement will help resolve the dispute and prevent further disruption to the academic calendar. Enditem
