Gyankroma Akufo-Addo denies $25 mln interchange claims, threatens legal action

By Francis Kobena Tandoh

Former Director of the Creative Arts Council Gyankroma Akufo-Addo has denied renewed claims that she received 25 million United States Dollars (USD) under the Art for All projects to paint interchanges in Accra, according to a statement on Friday.

In the statement, signed by Gyankroma, she described the claims as “entirely absurd and false” and dismissed the allegations as baseless and reiterated that no such contract has ever existed, been proposed, or been awarded to her.

“My attention has once again been drawn to the circulation of entirely absurd and false claims alleging that I received $25 million to paint interchanges in Accra. Let me state, again, unequivocally and for the record: This claim is completely false. No such contract has ever existed, been offered, or been awarded,” read the statement.

Gyankroma, daughter of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, challenged those behind the allegations to provide evidence, insisting that none exists.

“If any individual, media platform, or commentator is in possession of such a contract, I challenge them to produce it publicly. They will not because it does not exist,” added the statement.

The former Creative Arts Council Director explained that the initiative was carried out through the Creative Arts Agency with support from private sector partners as well as her personal contributions.

According to her, the details of that initiative have already been made public and remain unchanged.

She further stated that “the deliberate revival and spread of this fabrication, particularly across social media platforms, is a calculated attempt to mislead the public and damage my reputation.”

Gyankroma also announced that she has instructed her lawyers to institute legal action against all those behind such allegations.

“Accordingly, I have today instructed my lawyers to take immediate legal action against the individuals, platforms, and media outlets responsible for publishing and amplifying these falsehoods. I will not allow deliberate misinformation to go unchallenged.” Enditem
