A head-on collision on the Peki-Tsame road in the Volta Region in the wee hours of Tuesday has killed 15 with 25 others injured, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed.
The accident, which occurred at about 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 2, involved two commercial vehicles carrying a total of 40 passengers. Several others sustained injuries in the collision and are currently receiving treatment at various health facilities.
According to the GNFS, the crash involved a Mercedes-Benz container truck with registration number WR 1553-C, which was travelling from Nkwanta towards Accra, and a Mercedes-Benz passenger bus, registered GR 3215-E, which was travelling from Battor to Kabiti in the Oti Region.

Volta Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ghana National Fire Service, ADO1 Hope Bedzrah, said preliminary investigations indicate that the crash resulted from a head-on collision between the two vehicles.
According to him, emergency responders arrived at the scene and immediately commenced rescue operations to save passengers trapped in both vehicles.
“When they got there, they realized that the two vehicles had been involved in a head-on collision. Preliminary investigations at the scene suggest that there were 40 occupants in the two vehicles,” said Bedzrah to local media.

In all, a total of 25 survivors who had been trapped in the wreckage were rescued while the injured victims were subsequently transported to nearby hospitals.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have been conveyed to the morgue, awaiting identification and collection by relatives. Enditem
