Thousands of football fans packed a watch party in Abidjan on Sunday as the Ivory Coast opened their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with a dramatic 1-0 victory over Ecuador in Philadelphia.
Footage shows supporters cheering, singing and erupting in celebration after Amad Diallo struck a 90th-minute winner to secure three points for the Elephants.
“We showed our superiority on the field,” one supporter said. “The Ivorians were more efficient in their play and stronger in the duels.”
Another fan said the team could reach an even higher level despite the victory.
“We think they can raise their level even further in the upcoming matches,” the supporter said. “With this momentum, we are capable of scoring more goals and going deep into the competition.”
Ivory Coast sits in Group E alongside Germany, Ecuador and Curacao. Germany topped the group after thrashing Curacao 7-1 in their opening match.
The Elephants will next face Germany in Toronto on June 20, before taking on Curacao in Philadelphia on June 25.
