The Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment has invited pre-tertiary teacher unions to a meeting on Friday, October 9, towards the resolution of the two-week-old strike, according to a letter on Thursday.
The letter signed by Hamidu Adakurugu, Chief Director of the Ministry on behalf of the Minister, copied to the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and the Pre-Tertiary Teachers Association of Ghana (PRETAG), said the meeting will focus on resolving the strike action and other related issues.
“Please refer to our meeting and communication with you towards the resolution of the strike action, among others. Flowing from this, you are kindly invited to a meeting scheduled for Friday, October 9, 2026, in the Ministry’s Conference Room at 10.00am on the status of implementation of interventions towards the resolution of the strike action and other related matters,” said parts of the letter.
Pre-tertiary teacher unions embarked on an industrial action on September 25 over failure on the part of the government to place the 2025 promoted teachers onto their right salary scales, non-renewal of their expired collective agreement, and the non-implementation of the 20 per cent deprived area allowance.
Two previous meetings between the government and the teacher unions ended inconclusively, and there is pressure on authorities to resolve the matter for the teachers to return to the classroom. Enditem
