Morocco opened their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a commanding 4-0 win over Kenya in Group A on Sunday.
Footage filmed on Sunday shows supporters arriving at Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat before filling the stands ahead of kick-off.
Morocco coach Jorge Vilda said: “I think it was a good start. I am happy with the players and with the team’s performance in general. That is thanks to the good preparations we made, as we worked hard for a full month. As for now, my focus is on the next match.”
Morocco’s Zineb El Rhodani expressed confidence that the team could build on the result, saying: “I would like to congratulate the players on the fighting spirit they showed in midfield. We will approach the tournament one match at a time. The first match is over, and we hope, God willing, to achieve victory in the next match and to qualify from the group stage.”
Kenya’s Annedie Kondo remained defiant after the defeat: “This match is over, and we now have to prepare for the next match. I know it will be difficult, but we will fight.”
Morocco dominated the match and turned that pressure into four goals. Sakina Ouzraoui opened the scoring in the 19th minute before Meriem Atiq doubled the lead nine minutes later. Ibtissam Jraidi struck in the 32nd minute and again two minutes after the restart to complete the rout.
Morocco face Algeria in their second Group A match on Thursday, while Kenya take on Senegal earlier the same day.
The 2026 tournament is the 14th edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
