The 2027/27 MTN FA Cup final will be contested over two legs for the first time in the history of the competition, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) announced on Tuesday.

According to the FA, the decision marks a major change to the competition’s traditional format.

“The change represents a significant departure from the traditional single-match final and is expected to add another layer of excitement and competition to the country’s premier knockout tournament,” the GFA said on its official site.

The preliminary round of this year’s FA Cup competition, the association announced, will kick start from Oct. 23-26, running all through until June 5-7 and June 12-13, 2027, where the first and second legs of the finals will be played, respectively.

Nations FC are the reigning FA Cup champions, having defeated Dreams FC 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in last season’s final. Enditem
