The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested former professional boxer Michael Nii Ayitey Okai, popularly known as Ayitey Powers, over an alleged death threat against National Sports Authority (NSA) Director-General Yaw Ampofo, the police confirmed in a statement on Monday.
According to the Police, the alleged threat was made on Monday, August 24, 2026, in a video circulated on social media. Ayitey Powers is currently in police custody and assisting with investigations.
The Police said investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged threat and that appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the law.
The arrest follows an earlier call by the Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (GBIMC) for Ayitey Powers to be investigated and prosecuted over alleged threats against Ampofo Ankrah.
Ayitey Powers had earlier apologised to the NSA boss, saying his comments were not intended as a genuine threat. Enditem
