Police authorities in Ghana have banned the use of AirPods, earphones, and any form of auditory devices while driving or riding, according to a statement on Monday.

The statement, issued by the Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police Service, said the directive is part of ongoing efforts to reduce road accidents and improve safety across the country.

The Police warned that they would arrest and prosecute anyone found violating the directive in accordance with the country’s laws.

“The Ghana Police Service wishes to inform the general public, especially motor riders and drivers, that the use of airpods, earphones, or any form of audio devices while riding or driving is strictly prohibited,” read the statement.

“Offenders may face a custodial sentence of up to two years upon conviction,” added the statement.

The Police authorities urged the public to comply fully with the directive to avoid legal consequences.

The West African country has witnessed several motor accidents involving fatalities, with the recent one being last week on the Accra-Kumasi highway in which 11 persons died while over 20 others sustained various degrees of injuries. Enditem
