Russia always ready for Ukraine negotiations: Russian FM

Russia is open to negotiations on Ukraine at any time, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Wednesday.

“When we sit down at the negotiating table, if there are any sensible ideas, proposals and proper people on the other side, we will not trust anyone on their word alone,” Lavrov said during the 12th International Forum “Primakov Readings.”

He said that a political-diplomatic settlement of the situation around Ukraine is still quite possible.

According to Lavrov, Russia proposed that Ukraine significantly raise the rank of its delegation heads at the negotiations and also establish three working groups covering humanitarian, political and military issues, respectively.

Moscow continues to discuss a possible visit by U.S. President Donald Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner, and remains ready to listen to their proposals, Lavrov said.

He stressed that Russia’s vital national interests must be respected by Western countries.  Enditem
