Three pre-tertiary teacher unions have called on the Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Ghana Education Service (GES) to ensure that all newly promoted teachers are automatically placed on the appropriate salary scales corresponding to their new ranks, according to a statement on Thursday.
The call is contained in a joint statement by the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and Pre-Tertiary Teachers Association of Ghana (PRETAG).
The unions welcomed a recent GES assurance that salary placement for newly promoted teachers would remain automatic, describing it as consistent with an existing practice dating back to 2020.
The GES had earlier clarified that teachers who have been promoted do not need to submit application letters, promotion letters or other documents specifically to have their salaries adjusted.
The unions have, however, urged the Ministry and the GES to ensure that the salary adjustments are completed by August 31, 2026. They warned that any attempt to change the existing arrangement without consultation with the teacher unions would be “fiercely resisted.” Enditem
