Trump says Iran has 60 days or US will do things ‘that won’t make them happy’

US President Donald Trump on Friday warned Iran that Washington could take action that ‘won’t make them happy’ if the two sides fail to reach a final agreement within 60 days.

“Now we have an agreement that was signed last night, and it’s 60 days. They have to make a deal. Otherwise, we will do things that won’t make them happy, but I don’t think it’s going to get to that. I think it’s going to be very good,” he said at Joint Base Andrews.

The comments follow the signing of a memorandum of understanding on Wednesday. Trump signed the document at the Palace of Versailles, while Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signed in Iran, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif added Pakistan’s signature in Islamabad.

The 14-point memorandum calls for an immediate halt to military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon. However, Israel has asserted that it is not a party to the agreement and has continued its attacks on southern Lebanon.

Under the deal, Iran committed to reopening trade routes through the Strait of Hormuz free of charge for 60 days. In return, Washington committed to beginning the lifting of the blockade on Iranian ports immediately and completing the process within 30 days.
