UAE Education Minister Sarah bint Yousef Al Amiri called for renewed global efforts to ensure every girl receives a quality education, during a high-level event in Geneva on girls’ right to education.
Footage shows Al Amiri addressing officials and delegates during the event, which was held on the sidelines of the 63rd session of the UN Human Rights Council.
The Emirates News Agency (WAM) quoted Al Amiri as saying: “Our ambition must remain clear: every girl should receive at least twelve years of safe, inclusive, equitable, and quality education, and complete it.”
“Education should give her more than just a qualification; it should give her the knowledge, skills, and ability to make decisions about her future,” she added.
The event marked the 12th anniversary of the adoption of the Human Rights Council resolution on girls’ right to education, under the theme ‘Renewing the global commitment to leave no girl behind’.
The Permanent Missions of the Dominican Republic and Gambia co-sponsored the event.
