Firefighters are continuing efforts to contain a major wildfire near Ores in Spain’s northeastern Zaragoza province after the blaze burned more than 4,500 hectares of farmland and forest, forcing hundreds of people to evacuate.
Footage captured on Thursday shows firefighters hosing down scorched woodland as thick smoke billows from the fire zone.
Authorities said the wildfire remains under Spain’s PROCINFO Level 2 emergency plan, with more than 400 regional, national and military emergency personnel deployed. The Civil Protection Operational Coordination Centre (CECOPI) described the situation as critical following a difficult night of erratic winds.
The fire broke out near Ores in the Cinco Villas region on July 15. Since then, it has consumed thousands of hectares and prompted the precautionary evacuation of several villages.
The flames reached the town of Asin, where at least 10 homes were damaged.
Authorities have warned that changing weather conditions could continue to hamper containment efforts in the coming days, with the fire still posing a threat to nearby communities and infrastructure.
Officials have described it as one of the most complex wildfires Aragon has faced in recent years.
