The Electoral Commission (EC) has set Tuesday, March 3, 2026, as the date for a Parliamentary by-election in the Ayawaso East Constituency, according to a statement on Friday.
According to the statement signed by Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairman for Operations, nominations will be received at the Ayawaso East Municipal Office of the EC in North Ridge from Monday, February 9, to Wednesday, February 11, 2026, between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., and from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily.
The statement further observed that interested candidates are to download nomination forms from the EC’s official website, www.ec.gov.gh/forms, beginning Friday, January 16, 2026.
The completed forms, according to the electoral management body, must be delivered in quadruplicate, in person by the candidate or by their proposer or seconder, within the stipulated nomination period.
Candidates are also to ensure that their forms are witnessed by a proposer and seconder, both registered voters in the constituency, and supported by eighteen other registered voters from Ayawaso East.
Each candidate is also required to submit two recent bust-sized photographs against a red background and pay a non-refundable filing fee. The fee is set at GH¢10,000 for general candidates, with a reduced rate of GH¢7,500 for female candidates and persons with disabilities (PWDs).
The parliamentary by-election, the EC emphasized, is being conducted in accordance with Article 112 (5) of the 1992 Constitution, as amended, which mandates the EC to hold an election to fill a parliamentary vacancy.
The Commission has urged the public to be guided accordingly as it prepares to oversee a free, fair, and transparent electoral process.
The Ayawaso East Constituency seat became vacant following the passing of the constituency’s Member of Parliament, Hon. Mahama Naser Toure, on January 4 this year, hence the seat being declared vacant. Enditem
