Foreign Ministry cautions against forged immigration documents

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has cautioned nationals to desist from obtaining falsified immigration stamps and travel endorsements in passports to enhance their travel abroad, a statement from the ministry said on Friday.

According to the ministry, it has become aware of Ghanaian nationals abroad who have been arrested and detained in recent times following the discovery of forged immigration stamps in their passports.

“The ministry wishes to caution the general public, particularly Ghanaian citizens intending to travel abroad, against engaging individuals or intermediaries who offer falsified immigration stamps or travel endorsements in passports to create fictitious travel histories,” read the statement.

The ministry stressed that falsification of travel documents constitutes a serious criminal offense under Ghanaian law and the laws of many foreign jurisdictions, as such offenses could attract severe penalties.

It further cautioned travel agents or intermediaries that such practices expose both the agent and passport holder to grave legal consequences.

The ministry advised the public to process travel documents only through officially recognized channels and accredited institutions.

It also urged Ghanaians abroad to comply strictly with immigration laws of their host countries and seek assistance from Ghana’s diplomatic missions where necessary.

The ministry assured it remains committed to protecting the welfare of Ghanaian citizens abroad and will continue to work with the country’s diplomatic missions and relevant authorities to address such cases. Enditem
