Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, said on Friday that the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) cannot stop the main opposition party from winning the 2028 general election.
According to him, a breach in the security of the NPP cost them the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections, and they will not sit idly by for a repetition.
He emphasized that the NPP has learned its lessons and that no amount of intimidation from the governing party will stop it from capturing political power in the next general election.
“I know what led to our defeat in the last election. Our security led us down in 2024; we have learned our lesson, and the NDC can’t stop us from winning the 2028 election because we know what they did,” said Chairman Wontumi.
Touching on his recent arrest and detention at the Economic and Organized Crimes Office (EOCO) for days, he observed that no amount of intimidation and harassment from the government will stop the NPP from recapturing power if he is made the next national chairman of the opposition party.
“They can bury us, they can intimidate us, but they can’t stop us in 2028. When I am the National Chairman, I’ll empower the NPP,” added the Ashanti Regional Chairman.
He assured those who were happy because of his recent detention at EOCO, stressing that he fights battles daily and that his pains have strengthened him all the more.
“My pains have taught me to put systems in place. So, if you’re happy that Wontumi is in pain, I’m turning it into energy that will win power for the NPP,” he further stated.
Chairman Wontumi, who has been highly critical of the NDC government, was arrested last month by the government for alleged involvement in illegal mining, unlawful entry into forests, and mining in water bodies.
After serving as the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, he is now aspiring to be the National Chairman of Ghana’s largest opposition party. Enditem
