Ghana’s women’s senior football national team, the Black Queens, will begin the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games qualifiers with a game against the winner of either Mauritius or Djibouti, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed on Wednesday.

CAF, confirmed the preliminary schedule for the Women’s Olympic football qualifiers with Ghana earning a bye from the first round due to a superior ranking on the continent.

Ghana will skip the preliminary stage and await the winner of the first-round encounter between Mauritius and Djibouti scheduled to take place from Oct. 5 to 13 this year.

Despite the first-round reprieve, the Black Queens will need to successfully navigate three more knockout rounds after the second stage to book one of Africa’s limited slots at the women’s football tournament of the 2028 Olympics.

The Black Queens last featured at the Olympic Games in 2004.

Africa has two guaranteed slots for the women’s football tournament at the 2028 Olympic Games.

The Confederation of African Football announced that 35 nations will compete in a five-round qualification process, beginning in June this year to determine the two. Enditem
