A disciplined Colombia secured a 1-0 win against Ghana in the round of 32 at the ongoing FIFA World Cup at the Kansas City Stadium in the U.S.A. early Saturday to end their dream.
The Colombians dominated possession as the Black Stars struggled throughout the game, failing to register a single shot on target.
The Los Cafeteros of Colombia made an aggressive start to the game and found the breakthrough in the 14th minute through Jhon Arias when he connected from a cross delivered by Luis Suarez.
The South Americans continued their dominance and looked the more threatening side till the end of the first halt.
Back from recess, the Black Stars attempted to respond but found it difficult to create meaningful openings against a more organized Colombian defense.
Colombia remained dangerous, but for Lawrence Ati-Zigi’s fantastic saves, Ghana would have conceded additional goals.
Despite Ghana’s determination and defensive resilience, Colombia managed the closing stages well and held onto their solitary lead for a win.
The result brings Ghana’s World Cup to an end after reaching the knockout stage for the first time since 2010.
Colombia thus qualifies for the round of 16 and will meet Switzerland. Enditem
