Farmers at KwesiTwiKrom (KTK) near Agona Asafo in the Agona East District of the Central Region have called on the government to intervene in what they describe as robbing them of their livelihood.
According to our sources, over one hundred and fifty farmers have their farms destroyed, a situation they said can create dire consequences if not addressed with immediate effect.
The farmers say their variety of crops sitting on a 250-acre land has been graded down by an unknown investor who claims he had bought the entire land for the production of pineapple.
Briefing the media of their predicament, a former Assembly Member for the Fawomanye Electoral Area, Mr. Albert Quainoo, who spoke on behalf of the farmers, noted that the entire farmland containing cocoa, yam, palm nut, cassava, plantain, and vegetables, among other cash and food crops, was destroyed at the blind side of the farmers.

The Assembly Member said one farmer died from shock over the destruction of his crops.
Quainoo disclosed that in 2023, Yaw Nkum and Kwesi Agyei from the Royal Yogo Clan of Agona Asafo, who leased the said land to the people of KwesiTwiKrom over two centuries ago, attempted to evict the farmers under the guise of selling the land.
However, when contacted, the entire Clan denied knowledge of any such move and stopped the two until last week when they woke up only to see their entire farm graded to the ground.
A visit to the area indicates that some farmers are relying on the support of family members who live elsewhere to survive. Enditem
