The Ghana Airports Company (GAC) has installed state-of-the-art security screening equipment at the Accra International Airport (AIA), according to a statement by management on Sunday.
The GAC says the new screening will be deployed at the passenger screening checkpoints in Terminals 2 and 3 of the Accra International Airport.
The new security arrangement, according to management of the GAC, has been designed to enhance aviation security screening while improving the passenger experience.
“The Ghana Airports Company is pleased to announce the deployment of new, state-of-the-art security screening equipment at the passenger screening checkpoints in Terminals 2 and 3 of Accra International Airport,” read the statement.
Under the new arrangement, passengers are no longer required to remove their laptops and electronic devices in their cabins before screening, nor is there removal of footwear and belts as used to prevail unless otherwise required during security profiling, as well as passengers now being able to keep liquids, aerosols, and gels (LAGs) in their cabin luggage during screening.
Also, there is a new automatic tray return system that will quickly return trays to passengers for repacking of divested items.
According to management of the GAC, migration onto the new system will be done progressively or in phases and alongside the existing procedures and equipment.
The GAC urged passengers and stakeholders to cooperate as it commences with the new equipment. Enditem
