Kotoko vs Samartex match abandoned after heavy downpour at Baba Yara Stadium

By Francis Kobena Tandoh

Matchday 28 of the Ghana Premier League (GPL) between Asante Kotoko against FC Samartex at the Baba Yara Stadium has been called off following a heavy downpour on Easter Monday.

The match was goalless at the time of abandonment, with referee Nathan Anafo halting proceedings after assessing the pitch conditions early in the second half.

The referee, after testing the surface by bouncing the ball on the turf, and in consultation with both captains, deemed the pitch unplayable due its waterlogging nature.

The first half had ended without goals, but just seven minutes into the second half, heavy rain began to fall, quickly affecting the state of the pitch and making it unsafe to continue.

The remaining 45 minutes of the match will now be played on Tuesday at 9:00 am local time.

Kotoko had entered the game hoping to win to recapture their third position taken by rivals Accra Hearts of Oak on Sunday, while Samartex were also chasing maximum points as they push for a top-four finish. Enditem
