Mahama to procure 100 new ambulances, repair 100 broken-down ones to boost healthcare

President John Dramani Mahama announced on Wednesday plans by his government to purchase 100 new ambulances and repair another 100 broken-down vehicles as part of efforts to strengthen Ghana’s emergency healthcare response.

According to him, the intervention would increase the number of ambulances available to transport patients and improve the capacity of the health system to respond to medical emergencies.

“We will therefore purchase 100 new ambulances and procure the parts required to bring another 100 ambulances back into service,” President Mahama said.

He made the announcement at the 68th Annual General Conference of the Ghana Medical Association on Friday, November 6, 2026, where he outlined measures to address challenges confronting emergency healthcare delivery.

The planned procurement and repairs are expected to provide a combined 200 ambulances for emergency services, once the new vehicles are acquired and the broken-down ones restored.

The announcement comes as the government pursues broader measures to address gaps in emergency care, including expanding emergency bed capacity at major hospitals and improving coordination of patient referrals.

President Mahama said the measures were intended to strengthen the health system’s ability to respond to patients who require urgent medical attention. Enditem
