Hundreds of members and supporters of the oppositoin New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region late Friday held a solidarity vigil for the party’s Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
The vigil, held in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi, comes after Chairman Wontumi was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment with hard labour last month by an Accra High Court.
Party executives, constituency leaders and supporters gathered to pray and express solidarity with the embattled chairman, while calling for his release.
Meanwhile, lawyers for the incarcerated Ashanti Regional Chairman of the largest opposition party have begun processes to appeal the conviction and sentence. Enditem
