Chinese executives from various businesses have expressed confidence in the Ghanaian and West African markets at the Ghana Investment and Trade Week (GITW) held in Accra, the Ghanaian capital.
The combined GITW, Africa Build Show and Megawatt Africa conference and exhibitions seek to drive investment in trade, construction, infrastructure and energy, while emphasizing foreign direct investment, smart-city development, renewable energy, electric mobility and grassroots innovation through startups in Ghana.
The three-day event, ending on Thursday, has attracted at least 100 exhibitors from around the world, dozens of whom came from China, seeking to expand their global footprint through market and partnership opportunities in Ghana, a hub for West Africa.
Xue Jun, vice general manager of Beijing-based Duowei Union Group Co., Ltd., an integrated service provider of energy-saving metal enclosure systems and steel structure systems for green buildings, said the company aims to boost its presence by providing design, manufacturing and installation services for companies engaged in warehousing and workshop businesses in Ghana and West Africa.
“We started operating in Ghana in 2016, and the Ghanaian market has great potential. It is the business hub for West Africa, so we attach great importance to the Ghanaian market, with business trips here every year,” Xue told Xinhua on Wednesday.
This is the first time Duowei Union Group has participated in an exhibition in the West African country, he said, noting that the company would continue to develop the Ghanaian market due to the high demand for premium-quality steel structures in the fast-growing economy.
Another Chinese exhibitor was China Lesso Group Holdings Limited, a manufacturer of building and residential pipelines, home furnishing materials, solar panels, inverters and energy storage systems.
Mai Jiaqi, a sales representative for Lesso Group, said the company sees great opportunities in Ghana due to the booming real estate sector, with large residential and corporate structures, as well as hotels and other hospitality facilities, springing up.
“We have built several factories in Africa, including in Tanzania, Nigeria and Angola. We attend this exhibition to attract more clients here. We are also trying to build a factory in Ghana and are willing to invest in Ghana,” Mai said.
Cao Xiaobing, export manager for Amigo Sanitary Ware, expressed satisfaction with the exhibition in Ghana, saying that ministers and representatives from major businesses had visited the company’s exhibition booth at the fair.
“We have a very good impression of Ghana and would like to come and spend more time here to showcase our products to Ghanaians,” Cao said.
“Before we came for this exhibition, some Ghanaians had already been buying from us, but we did not know much about the Ghanaian market, although we knew Ghana was growing very fast. Now, this event has given us a very good impression. This is a good market. We have met many people and businesses that want our products,” she said. Enditem
