By Francis Kobena Tandoh

Former Energy Minister Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko has indicated he will be contesting the position of Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) if the party opens nominations, according to a statement on Tuesday.

In a statement by him titled “A call to duty—NPP National Chairmanship,” Agyarko observed that he decided after wide consultations with his family and people close to him.

“I have had consultations with members of my family and those who are very close to me and whose lives would be most affected by the decisions I make,” read the statement.

“I have also listened carefully to what the broad masses of our party people, and indeed many outside our party, are asking of me. Having factored in all the considerations, I see it as my bounden duty to respond to this call to duty, and hereby announce that I will contest for the position of National Chairman of my party upon the opening of nominations,” added the statement.

The NPP will hold a presidential primary on January 31, 2026, after which national, regional, constituency, branch, and polling station elections will be held. End item
