Morocco advanced to the final of the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) after edging defending champions Senegal 5-3 on penalties following a 1-1 draw on Tuesday night at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, Uganda.
Joseph Layousse Samb put Senegal ahead after 16 minutes with a well-placed header, but the Atlas Lions responded quickly, equalizing through Sabir Bougrine just seven minutes later.
Morocco piled on the pressure in the second half, but Senegal’s defense held firm to force the game into a penalty shootout. Senegal missed their first attempt, while Morocco converted all five spot-kicks to seal victory.
“It was a very tough semifinal match because Senegal were not an easy opponent. But I thank my players for being disciplined, fighting back after conceding, and keeping their composure in the shootout,” Morocco coach Tarik Sektioui said. Enditem
