Transport operators have issued an ultimatum to the President John Dramani Mahama to address rising operational costs before September 21 or face their wrath, according to a statement on Wednesday.
In a joint statement by Alliance of Drivers National, Cooperatives, and Protoa, the drivers threatened to park their vehicles from Monday, September 21 until further notice if their grievances were not addressed.
According to the drivers, issues including increase in Driver, Vehicle and Licensing Authority (DVLA) charges, penalty charges, fuel prices, spare parts, car insurances as well as harassment by police officers on the roads and government persistent intervention in the upward adjustment of transport fares are impacting negatively on their business.
“We, the transport OPPERATERS wish to inform the general public that; we intend to park all our commercial vehicles until further notice if our concerns are not addressed.
We are calling on His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana to address the following pressing issues immediately:
Increase in car insurance premiums
Increase in D.V.L.A. charges
Increase in penalty charges
Police harassment on our roads
Increase in fuel prices
Government not allowing an increase in lorry fares
Increase in spare parts prices,” read the statement.
It added, “We plead with the President to address these concerns as a matter of urgency. If these issues are not addressed by 21st September 2026, all drivers will park their cars until further notice. Enditem
