A sod-cutting has been held at Gomoa Dahom in the Central Region for the commencement of the construction of affordable homes for cocoa farmers across the country.

The initiative, undertaken by Priority View Homes, a private limited liability company, is to support cocoa farmers in having access to affordable homes during and even after they are aged as farmers.

The 3-bedroom facility project dubbed ‘Decent Housing Project for Cocoa Farmers,’ which has begun at Gomoa Dahom in the Gomoa Central District, will offer the farmers a fifteen-year grace period for the beneficiary farmers to pay for the facility, after which they become bonafide owners of the houses.

Chief Executive Officer of the Company, Mr. Eric Affadu, who disclosed this to the media during the sod-cutting ceremony, noted that the project will be replicated in all cocoa-growing areas across the country.

He said his objective is to encourage more people, especially the youth, to go into cocoa production to help boost the country’s economy.

Mr. Affadu, however, expressed regrets over how Ghana, which was once the leading cocoa-producing country in the world, has now been overtaken by the Ivory Coast.

The Priority View Homes CEO attributed the situation to a lack of some incentives, such as affordable houses, to entice more people to go into cocoa farming.

He expressed optimism that the project will help change the current trend of cocoa production in the country for the better to boost the country’s economy. End item
