Police officer interdicted over death of 23-year-old Central University law student

The Ghana Police Service has interdicted General Corporal Robert Koranteng in connection with the death of 23-year-old Central University law student Ivan Baidoo.

Baidoo, a second-year law student, died following an incident on the Tema Motorway on August 27, 2026. Preliminary accounts indicate that he was travelling as a pillion passenger on a YANGO-operated motorcycle when a police officer allegedly pursued the motorcycle, resulting in a crash.

The Police said its Homicide Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is intensifying investigations to establish the full circumstances surrounding the student’s death.

The Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) has also been tasked with investigating the conduct of General Corporal Koranteng.

According to the Police, both investigations are ongoing, and appropriate action will be taken based on their findings.

The development follows a petition by Baidoo’s family to the CID seeking a deeper investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. Enditem
