Flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has urged Members of Parliament (MPS) of the party to remain resolute in holding the John Dramani Mahama-led government accountable, insisting that effective scrutiny is essential to protecting the interests of Ghanaians.
Speaking during a meeting with the Minority Caucus in Parliament on Wednesday, Dr. Bawumia encouraged the MPs to intensify their oversight role by critically examining government policies, spending and public pronouncements.
He stressed that the Minority must demand facts and data to support government claims, arguing that Parliament remains a key institution for ensuring transparency and accountability in governance.
According to him, the NPP’s role in opposition should be guided by discipline, unity and constructive engagement, while also positioning the party as a credible alternative ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Dr. Bawumia further reminded the MPs that their conduct both inside and outside Parliament would shape public perception about the NPP’s readiness to return to power.
The remarks form part of the party’s broader reorganisation efforts following its defeat in the 2024 general elections. Enditem
