The Traders Advocacy Group (TAGG) of Ghana has extended its support for the port charges cap introduced by the Ghana Shippers Authority (GSA) to streamline and cap container administrative charges at the various ports across the country, a statement on Wednesday confirmed.
The statement jointly signed by David Kwadwo and Nana Poku, President and General Secretary, respectively, said the directive is an important intervention to end persistent exploitation of importers.
The group expressed its gratitude for the agreed administrative charge of GH₵550 reached through stakeholder engagement, stressing that pricing of the rate in Ghana Cedis is justified and necessary to protect traders from unjustified exchange rate distortions.
“The Traders Advocacy Group Ghana expresses its firm and uncompromising support for the recent directives issued by the Ghana Shippers Authority to streamline and cap container administrative charges at Ghana’s ports,” read the statement.
According to TAGG, “there will be no justification for non-compliance as the era of unregulated and inflated port charges is over.”
The group further stated that the new directive will drive efficiency, accountability, and fairness across the sector and that any attempt to undermine policy is a direct affront to the trading community and national economic interest.
The TAGG urged shipping lines and their agents to comply fully with the directive, as any resistance is unacceptable and exposes entrenched practices that have long disadvantaged Ghanaian businesses. Enditem
