Carlos Queiroz is a suitable choice by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for the Black Stars job; this is according to Abel Manomey, a lecturer at the Department of Education and Sports at the University of Ghana, Legon.
According to him, Ghana’s male senior football national team, the Black Stars, needs a manager who can organize the team to deliver consistent results, especially as the team prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
He told Ghana Eye Report exclusively that the national team needs stability and tactical identity and believes the former Portuguese and Real Madrid manager possesses the qualities to achieve that.
At this stage, I believe Carlos Queiroz is a suitable choice, although I have some reservations. Admittedly, I see the importance of stability, discipline, and clear tactical identity—areas where he has proven expertise. Ghana currently needs a coach who can organize the team effectively and deliver consistent performances, particularly in competitive fixtures,” said the varsity don.
The lecturer further emphasized that the Portuguese coach’s principles are top-notch but added he needs to build strong relationships to succeed.
“Additionally, his methodological approach aligns with modern coaching principles, including structured training, opponent analysis, and strategic planning. However, his success will depend on his ability to adapt to the Ghanaian football culture, build strong relationships with players, and effectively integrate both local and international talents. If these factors are managed well, he can be the right man for the job,” he added.
Ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Manomey stressed that he was looking up to the new coach leading the Black Stars to progress beyond the group stages, a feat that has eluded Ghana in the 2014 and 2022 World Cups that it participated in.
“Looking ahead to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the minimum expectation should be progression beyond the group stage. More importantly, I expect a team that demonstrates tactical maturity, mental resilience, and the ability to compete effectively against top footballing nations,” Manomey further stated.
The Executive Committee of the GFA appointed Carlos Queiroz last week to replace former coach Otto Addo after unimpressive performances by the Black Stars in recent times. Enditem
