Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has declared that the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration has failed Ghanaians, accusing it of struggling to fulfill major promises made ahead of the 2024 elections.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament during the resumption of the Second Meeting of the First Session of the 9th Parliament on Thursday, Afenyo-Markin said the expectations of Ghanaians had not been met despite the government’s assurances on economic recovery, job creation and cost of living relief.
According to him, the government’s flagship “24-hour economy” policy remains largely unimplemented, while many citizens continue to grapple with economic hardship, unemployment and rising utility costs.
He stressed that “The government promised hope and transformation, but the realities confronting Ghanaians today show clear signs of failure.”
The Minority Leader further criticised the government over intermittent power outages, high food prices, concerns within the cocoa sector, delays in implementing social intervention programmes, and what he described as weak economic management.
Afenyo-Markin said the Minority caucus would continue to hold the government accountable throughout the parliamentary session and ensure strict scrutiny of policies and expenditure.
The Majority side, however, insists the government is still within the early phase of its mandate and is laying the foundation for the implementation of key policies, including the 24-hour economy initiative and industrial support programmes. Enditem
